“Redgrave are my first point of call when it comes to CFO talent”
HR DIRECTOR, GREENE KING
Placing talented CFO’s into the right organisation is what we’re best known for and we’re proud to be able to point to many of the FSTE 100 businesses and know we’ve helped take their business to another level as a result.
Rather than have a dedicated practice, we have at least one specialist focused on CFO assignments in each of our sector areas, so although we work across many industries, the placement of CFO’s has long been the bedrock of our business.
Due to a combination of our personal style, flexible approach and unmatched network, we’ve become the leading independent search firm in this space. And we are as happy finding CFO’s for FTSE100 businesses as we are supporting small, privately-owned businesses on their exciting quest to hire their first ever CFO.
Our level of repeat business is consistently high due to the incredibly trusted relationships we enjoy with clients across industry sectors and geographical locations, on the back of our genuine human approach and commitment to delivery.
We can also be trusted to deliver talent across the broader finance team, working from Board level and up to two levels below, across Group, Corporate and Divisional Finance roles, and functions including Strategy, Internal Audit, Company Secretarial, Tax and Treasury.
If you have an assignment that you think we can support you on, please contact our Partner, Matthew Leedham, who would be delighted to discuss your needs in more detail.
“Dan’s commitment to finding us exactly what we wanted was unwavering and he went above and beyond to find us a high calibre shortlist. As well as his extensive network, his natural instinct and ability to communicate are the key to his success.”
CEO of Itsu & Founder of Itsu and Pret a Manger
The leisure, travel and hospitality sectors are incredibly well known and understood by the team at Redgrave, reflected in our exceptional record of cross-functional, executive and non-executive Board placements, working primarily at C-suite and one level down.
Within leisure and hospitality, various economic pressures, coupled with an unsustainable increase in supply (particularly in the UK casual dining market) means our clients need a new breed of strategic leadership to survive. A successful, multi-site hospitality business must now have the intellectual bandwidth within its leadership to differentiate its customer proposition, exploit technological advances, maximise the use of customer data and navigate the complex challenges of the current trading conditions.
To meet this demand, we go beyond the conventional list of target companies exploring new avenues to access the right level of intellectual leadership for the future of your business. As a result, our impressive client-base considers us the ‘go-to’ search partner in this space.
These clients are from across the industry; from hotels, casual dining, fine dining, pubs/bars, late-night and QSR and range from FTSE listed organisations to smaller PE or VC backed multi-site chains. We are right at the heart of the industry; we have trusted relationships with all the leading brands, industry figures and lobbying bodies and are constantly in touch with our remarkable network of CEOs, Chairmen, functional leaders and operators.
Much of the traditional travel sector is notoriously ‘behind the curve’ when it comes to use of data and digital marketing methodology and bringing in new talent from more forward thinking sectors is a must. Our travel clients therefore benefit from our broad consumer network and ability to think beyond the obvious to help them make innovative executive appointments. Our reach is truly international to maximise the size of the candidate pool for this exceptionally global industry and we have relocated many talented senior operators across the world.
We enjoy close and trusted relationships particularly within global tour operators, ocean and river cruise organisations, international and domestic airlines, travel-related technology and reward companies.
Our highly personal, pacey and flexible approach has also enabled us to help many high profile clients within the wider leisure sphere including cinema chains, gym groups, and other experiential leisure companies where we are equally comfortable working in either consumer facing or the business-to-business environment.
Our capability across the entire sector is also strengthened by our close links to the retail and wider consumer sectors. We inject fresh thinking into every brief, often complimenting a shortlist with suggestions from other customer-orientated industries where brand, digitisation, data insight and best in class operations are key.

“Redgrave are a pleasure to deal with. Not only are they extremely knowledgeable and experienced, they are responsive, honest and committed. They have a refreshing approach and a highly effective methodology. What sets them apart though is that they are a really normal, down to earth bunch – good fun to work with.”
BOARD DIRECTOR, PETS AT HOME
Since our launch in 2008, Redgrave’s consumer division has enjoyed a huge amount of success helping retail and FMCG clients hire exceptionally talented executives.
The current pace of change within both of these sectors is, arguably, faster than ever; technology-led changes in customer behaviour and the lowering of barriers to market entry for any new brand or retailer, have changed the way organisations need to think about ‘product’ and customers. Furthermore, the data-rich climate, the ease with which prices can be compared and the ever-rising costs of operating physical stores have complicated the landscape even further.
For retailers trying to adjust to today’s trading environment, there is a real need to adjust to a new way of thinking and a different way of operating. In order to flourish, forward-thinking organisations are embracing the value and opportunity that data can provide; leveraging their enhanced understanding to place their customers at the heart of their strategy and operating model. This means building genuine multi-channel propositions and reviewing the size and purpose of store estates with a ‘no sacred cows’ approach. Additionally, it is essential to operate with highly efficient and flexible supply chains, whilst also paying very close attention to the critical issues around proposition, product and price.
For FMCG organisations, changing customer behaviour, advances in technology and the prevalence of data are proving equally dramatic. The old business model of building long-term value through brand strength, with challenger brands kept at bay by the prohibitive cost of off-line advertising, is no longer valid.
As a result of these changes, many of the old school approaches are increasingly inappropriate. Gone are the days of ‘command and control’ leadership and the ability to protect market share through expensive TV advertising.
Successful organisations, keen to future-proof their leadership teams, are increasingly seeking to hire executives with intellectual curiosity and genuinely customer-centric mind-sets. These changes are resulting in more and more retail and FMCG organisations choosing to hire talent from outside their industries.
Furthermore, in a move to help build more agile organisations, many CEOs are actively streamlining their leadership teams, fostering closer working relationships and encouraging faster decision-making.
Redgrave’s consumer team really understands the complexities of these challenges and has developed a far-reaching global network, across all relevant sectors and functions, so they are best placed to be able to help organisations identify and attract the best possible talent to meet their particular needs.
Our unique, flexible, highly personal approach continues to prove extremely effective for our clients, who range from FTSE100 companies to start-ups, private-equity backed and privately owned companies. We have expertise within every function imaginable, with a primary focus on General Management, Finance & Strategy, Marketing, Commercial & Trading and Technology/Digital.
If you would like to know more please contact our Partner, David Angel, who would be delighted to discuss your needs in more detail.

Billion-dollar tech start-ups, or “Unicorns”, were once dismissed as fantasy, but are steadily becoming commonplace norms, underpinned by a thriving market and a new generation of disruptive technology.
James Lewis who heads up our Technology Practice is passionate about this exciting and rapidly growing marketplace. We concentrate on identifying the key leadership talent across the Technology sector that is going to shape its future and have a network of ‘digital innovators’. These are people who have grown up in digitally agile, dynamic organisations that are high-growth, fast-paced and demanding environments; the leaders of today and the shapers of tomorrow.
Our focus is broad, with mandates ranging from Chairman, Chief Executive, Financial Officer for Communications, Software and Digital businesses; as well as the latest additions to the C-suite table; the Chief Technical Officer and Chief Digital Officer, and their direct teams.
With only 3% of the FTSE 350 having ‘digital savvy’ Boards, according to Harvard Business Review, demand for digital leadership is high. We can help you find it.

“Redgrave is a high quality business which operates at pace. They always introduce good people and don’t waste our time.”
As a growing, entrepreneurial business ourselves, we understand and identify with management teams who are on their own growth journey, so the PE market is one we have naturally gravitated towards. We partner seamlessly with both portfolio companies and their Private Equity backers, from the largest buyout houses to mid-market growth funds, to deliver high quality, impactful people.
Whether as part of a formal hiring process, or to aid more generally with pre-deal diligence and the development of investment theses, primarily we connect investors with exceptional talent to help accelerate growth and ensure strong returns on deployed capital.
Our broader assessment offering helps investors to ensure that the management teams within their portfolio are not only culturally congruent but also have the necessary competencies to deliver the intended growth agenda, enabling investors to act appropriately where this is not the case.
The ‘Redgrave difference’ is not only a level of innovation and lateral thinking rarely seen in today’s search firms, but also based on both a personal commitment to every assignment and an astute understanding of how Private Equity thinks about management; helping investors to hire individuals who are entrepreneurial, results-focused and straight talking.
If you have a Private Equity assignment we’d be delighted to help so please contact Brian Hamill to discuss.
